My first attempt at moulding an object with epoxy fibre composite material

This anglerfish from [Finding Nemo] by [Pixar Disney] was the spark for the letterbox project. It has an incredibly large snout, ideal for eating up all the bills and advertising messages that are constantly being put through your letterbox. In reality, however, the frogfish is a very small fish, between 3 and 30 cm, but ideal for the project as a source of inspiration for my fish creation. However, I wasn’t just interested in designing a letterbox, but a creative work of art. The following picture gallery shows the creation of this object. Three phases had to be gone through before the fish was created.

  1. The original mould made of Sagex and plaster => the orange mould.
  2. The negative for moulding the fish => the black mould
  3. The glass fibre reinforced fish => the white mould
